Dangle Pawns Guide

The Rook and the Dangling Pawn

What to Remember

A Dangling Pawn combined with a Rook is powerful.

Specific Examples

If you drop a Pawn on P-24 here, the opponent is crushed. The opponent cannot add any pieces to defend the 23-square. Even if they want to drop a Pawn, they cannot do so because their Bishop is already on that file.

As a result, P-23+ successfully works.

Moving on to the next example

Here, we drop a Dangling Pawn. If the Silver moves, we can capture the Gold. This means the Silver cannot move. As a result, we can create a Promoted Pawn (Tokin).

Moving on to the next example

Here, we drop a Dangling Pawn. The opponent cannot defend against it, allowing us to create a Promoted Pawn (Tokin).

Summary
